Discover Mino's traditions! Join us for a workshop hosted by a long-established Mino washi craft goods manufacturer. Fairfield by Marriott Gifu Mino

On Saturday, October 17, 2026, a Mino Washi paper-making workshop will be held for guests staying at Fairfield by Marriott Gifu Mino. This event is a collaboration with Ishikawa Paper Goods Ltd., founded in 1902.

Mino washi is a traditional craft with a history of over 1,300 years, passed down in Mino City, Gifu Prefecture. Among these, Hon-Mino-shi is renowned as a high-quality type of washi and has been designated as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. At this event, you’ll enjoy making Mino washi crafts in a 270-year-old historic building located in the “Townscape with Udatsu” district. Choose one item from among a self-righting doll, a brush holder, or a washi plate, and—with the guidance of staff from Ishikawa Paper Industries—enjoy creating a one-of-a-kind piece.

After the experience concludes, there will be time for you to explore on your own. At the “Mino Washi Light Art Exhibition,” numerous light art installations made from Mino washi cast a magical glow over the “Townscape with Udatsu.” You can also enjoy shopping for Mino washi goods at the Ishikawa Paper Industry shop.

Why not take this opportunity to experience the history and culture of Mino washi and embark on a journey filled with new discoveries and inspiration?
