On Thursday, July 30, Fairfield by Marriott Gifu Gujo will hold an event for guests staying at the hotel, in collaboration with Gujo Mokuri, where you can make your own dancing geta sandals and burn pen decoration.

The “Gujo Odori,” held annually in Gujo City, Gifu Prefecture, is one of Japan's three major Bon dances and was listed as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2022. Held from mid-July to early September, it is Japan’s longest-running Bon dance festival.

This collaboration features Gujo Mokuri, a specialized geta atelier dedicated to “Made in Gujo” products that support the Gujo Odori. All of their geta are crafted from sturdy hinoki cypress, known for the pleasant sound it produces during the dance.

At this event, under the guidance of Mr. Yuto Morohashi, representative of Gujo Mokuri, you’ll create your very own pair of dance geta by attaching a thong in your favorite design and decorating them with a burn-in pen. Why not immerse yourself in a special summer in Gujo by wearing the geta you’ve crafted yourself and joining in the Gujo Odori circle?
